I'm back!

I hadn't picked up a needle, checked other stitchers blogs or participated in any forums since around about the time I made my last post here.

Life and other stuff just got in the way so I packed up my stash and hoped that one day soon I would have the time and inclination to stitch again.

The stitching bug is back! In the last week I've worked on Middy, kitted up Chatelaines Taj Mahal and started a Spot of Spring by the Drawn Thread.

I'm on holiday from work for a week starting today so hopefully I'll have something to show soon.

A couple of finishes

I've finally gotten around to taking pics of my recent finishes. Unfortunately a couple of the pics were quite useless (hey, I'm a stitcher not a photographer) so I don't have as much to show you as I'd have liked.

I spotted a couple of pictures of 8 sided pillows (isn't the French name for them biscornu?) on someone elses blog and I'm quite intruiged. I might have to have a go at one of those next. Oh, and biscornu sounds much nicer than 8 sided pillow :)

I haven't done much in the way of crafty type things lately hence the lack of updates.

I've started stitching a needleroll and I'm knitting the longest scarf in the world...stay tuned for pics of both :)

First Xmas Ornie

This is the first Christmas Ornie I've finished this year. It's for an exchange, but I know there is no chance of my partner seeing it so I'm safe to show you.

I'd almost finished a Christmas Ornie earlier when I realised that something was out of place...thats what I get for letting my mind wander when I should be concentrating. I realised I had some frogging to do, got all fed up and disheartened and put it away. Grrr I hate it when that happens!

I have the urge to start Just Nan's Legacy...I must resist..I must resist... oh it's soooooo pretty!

My LNS

I paid a visit to my LNS the other day. Well, it's not a shop as such - it's a craft warehouse that's part of a garden centre. The have a small section for stitchers...DMC and Anchor, some kits, a few charts, a small selection of fabric and accessories. That's about as close to a LNS we have around here.

I remembered why I do all my stash shopping online. It was almost £14 ($24) for a fat quarter of 28 count linen and £15 for a Mirabilia chart! Needless to say I didn't buy anything stitchy.

I've been kitting up a few new projects - Just Nan's Legacy, a couple of Bent Creek's and I've started Lorri Birmingham's Spring Hardanger table runner. It's looking lovely even though it's my first attempt at buttonhole stitch. I may give it to my MIL as part of her Christmas present although if it looks too nice it'll end up on my table instead ;o)

Middy update

I've been plodding along with Middy for the last few days.

I haven't done it on the recommended dark linen and now I found myself with a bit of dilemma. The wand on the right just isn't showing on the light linen enough. I thought maybe adding some BF over the top or restitching it with some #4 braid might make it pop but it still seems lost amongst the sparkleys of the fabric. I might have to frog it and use another coloured floss altogether. Does anyone have any suggestions for a wand colour conversion?

I didn't realise it had been so long since I was last here.

I have quite a few finishes since my last entry - unfortunately nothing I can share yet though. I have stitched a couple of ornaments from JCS Ornies 2005 for exchanges I'm in, one of my own designs and a Mill Hill kit.

I have been quite productive for a change and hopefully I can share a couple sooner rather than later.

I've been looking around for a nice design to turn into a needle case. I don't have one and currently keep my needles in a tatty bit of felt I found in the bottom of my sewing box. I also need a scissor fob...I have a bit of a weakness for stitching smalls but always end up making them for exchanges and never keeping them myself. I think I have a chartpack for a Just Nan needlecase somewhere...maybe I'll get the time to look for it and make a start later.

I got my 2005 JCS Ornament mag today. Woohoo! My to do list had just increased into treble figures. There are some beautiful ones in there this year - I think I found at least two I liked on every page. My favourite has to be the Love needleroll closely followed by Noel 2005 and Holly n' Hardanger.

I also got the 2003 edition of the mag. Now I get the joke about the pink flamingo :-D

My Sewing Skills

Well, I've finished the stitching on the Quaker Sewing Kit and now all I have to do is pluck up the courage to have a go at finishing it.

My sewing skills aren't great so it's a daunting task for me. I've only ever attempted simple things like ornaments before so it will definately be a learning experience. Fingers crossed I don't mess it up.

I'm so in trouble! I started looking for some nice fabric to back the Quaker Sewing Kit and being typically indecisive, ordered much more than I intended. I had a quick look online so I could show you and this was the closest thing I could find. It's fairly similar.

Ornie Exchanges

My self control hasn't been very good lately. I've bought a small kit for one of my exchanges, Starflake Chart Leaflet from Patricia Ann Designs and another ornie kit which wasn't in stock but I should get next week.

I also bought the US JCS mag the other day. I like it much better than the UK mags - there is a Quaker Sewing Kit in there that I'm going to kit up soon but I'm going to use overdyed and a pretty cotton backing instead of the recommended linen.

Artistic licence is all part of the fun! ;o)
